Sri Lanka appoint Dinesh Chandimal as new Test skipper, Upul Tharanga handed over ODI and T20I captaincy

Colombo, Jul 12 (IBNS): Following Angelo Matthews' decision to relinquish captaincy, Sri Lanka have appointed Dinesh Chandimal as their new Test captain, while handing over ODI and T20I mantle to Upul Tharanga.

Matthews quit his job following Sri Lanka's loss to Zimbabwe 2-3 in a five-match ODI series in the former's backyard.

The cricket board also picked up a preliminary 15-member squad for the upcoming solitary Test match against Zimbabwe.

The squad:

Dinesh Chandimal (Capt.), Upul Tharanga (Vice-Capt.), Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, Dimuth Karunarathna, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Asela Gunaratna, Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Lakshan Sandakan, Vishwa Fernando, Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara.
