Shubman Gill creates history, smashes fastest ODI double century

Gill breaks Ishan Kishan's record

Gill reached the landmark in 117 deliveries, becoming the fastest batter in ODI history to score a double hundred.

The India captain surpassed the previous record held by Ishan Kishan, who smashed a double century in 126 balls against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2022.

Gill's latest feat also marked his second 200-plus score in ODI cricket, underlining his remarkable consistency in the format.

West Indies post record 405

Gill's extraordinary innings came after the West Indies piled up a mammoth 405 for seven, their first-ever 400-plus total in ODI cricket.

John Campbell set the tone with a blistering century, smashing 101 off 68 balls with nine fours and five sixes.

Shai Hope then scored 104 off 94 balls, while Amir Jangoo produced a rapid 114 off 83 balls. Jangoo's century came off just 69 deliveries.

The three centuries marked the first time the West Indies had produced three individual hundreds in the same ODI.

India’s young pace attack struggles

With Jasprit Bumrah away on Asian Games duty and Mohammed Siraj still unavailable, India's inexperienced pace attack struggled to contain the West Indies on a flat Guwahati surface.

Auqib Nabi had a difficult outing, conceding 84 runs in 8.5 overs, while Gurnoor Brar returned 2/96. Prasidh Krishna took 1/45 from his five overs.

India also suffered an injury scare when all-rounder Naman Dhir twisted his ankle and left the field after bowling 6.1 overs.

Kuldeep enters 200-wicket club

There were, however, significant milestones for India's spin department.

Kuldeep Yadav took 2/65 to complete 200 ODI wickets, joining an elite group of Indian bowlers to reach the landmark.

Ravindra Jadeja also claimed two wickets, finishing with 2/75 as India looked to restrict the West Indies after their record-breaking batting display.
