Kerala High Court asks BCCI to lift lifetime ban on Sreesanth

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 7 (IBNS): The Kerala High Court on Monday asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to lift the lifetime ban imposed on pace bowler S Sreesanth.

It was imposed on him following a 2013 spot fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League.

In the order passed, Justice A Muhamed Mustaque has set aside the proceedings initiated against Sreesanth by the BCCI.

The order by the court came after it had sought the BCCI's stand on Sreesanth's plea against the lifetime ban.

The Indian cricket board was quoted by the NDTV: "The decision of the sessions court to acquit the petitioner from the criminal charges has no impact whatsoever on the decision of the internal disciplinary committee of the BCCI to ban the petitioner from playing cricket tournaments organised by the BCCI and/or its affiliates."

Along with Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were also accused in the spot fixing scandal broke out in IPL 2013. All were acquitted by the Patiala Court in 2015.

Sreesanth was the bowler of Rajasthan Royals in 2013 edition of IPL.

The former pace bowler made his international debut in 2005.
