Dubai, May 18 (IBNS): The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced a new partnership with Aspall to become the Official Cider Partner for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which will be staged in the United Kingdom from 1-18 June.

Aspall has been in the Cider-making business since 1728, but this is the first time it has partnered with cricket.

As part of the partnership, Aspall products will be available at the three tournament venues as well as the Fan Park in Birmingham.

ICC General Manager – Commercial, Campbell Jamieson, said: “On behalf of the ICC, I welcome Aspall as an Official Cider Partner for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Aspall is a premium brand in the United Kingdom and its decision to partner with the ICC indicates the popularity of 50-over cricket and also reflects how attractive major global events such as the ICC Champions Trophy are to brands."

“Having the ICC Champions Trophy at three iconic locations and involving the top eight-ranked teams together for a short, sharp and prestigious event is really creating a buzz around this year’s tournament and this combined with the significant number of fans attending the tournament is attracting sponsors such as Aspall,” said he.

Des Smith, CEO at Aspall said: “All of us here at Aspall are thrilled to be a new partner of this prestigious event. The ICC attracts the best teams and cricketers in the world. The ICC has a fantastic reputation and high standards and values that we feel align so well with Aspall and what we also stand for. We are really looking forward to this partnership.”

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will see the top eight-ranked sides on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings as on 30 September 2015 go head to head in an 18-day tournament from 1 June, during which 15 matches will be played.

The Oval will stage the opening match between host England and Bangladesh on 1 June as well as the final on 18 June. Cardiff Wales Stadium will host four matches, including the first semi-final on 14 June, while Edgbaston will host five matches, including the India v Pakistan and Australia v England matches as well as the second semi-final on 15 June.
