Champions Trophy 2017: Pakistan outplay England by eight wickets, reach final

Cardiff, June 14 (IBNS): Pakistan outplayed England by eight wickets in the first semi final on Wednesday, to reach the final of Champions Trophy 2017.

Chasing a total of 212, Pakistan were absolutely spot on with the bat right from the beginning as Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman put up an opening stand of 118 runs.

Though Zaman was dismissed at 57, Azhar took his team closer to the target with his 76 runs innings from 100 balls.

Babar Azam (38) and Mohammad Hafeez (31) stayed till the end to seal a victory for his team.

England bowlers struggled throughout to get breakthroughs in the Pakistan innings. Jake Ball and Adil Rashid picked up the wickets of the two Pakistani openers.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and asked the English team to take the charge with bat.

Though several English batsmen got a decent start, their inability to convert them into big innings made England reduce to a low total.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root scored 43 and 46 runs while Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes managed to get 30s batting in the middle order.

Hasan Ali had the best bowling figure for Pakistan as he picked up three wickets giving away just 35 runs in 10 overs.

Junaid Khan and Rumman Raees shared two wickets each.

In the final, Pakistan will face the winner of the second semi final that will be played between India and Bangladesh, on Thursday.
