Mumbai, Aug 4 (IBNS): Rakesh Omprakash Mehra has played a significant role in bringing change in the Indian cinema and has influenced many.

He is one of those directors who love to make films which he believe in. The director is known for his classics Rang de Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

With the support of co-producer Ronnie Screwvala, he happily took a huge risk by making Rang De Basanti, a proven influencer amongst the youth. And not only did the movie do well at the box office, but also garnered a lot of appreciation from the who’s who from the government as well as the audience. The response was beyond his expectations.

Rang De Basanti successfully brought a change in the minds of the people and gave them a fresh outlook towards their rights and responsibilities. In those days candle marches were not popular, but post the movie’s release; it was used by many people. One of the examples of this was the candlelight vigil in Delhi for model Jessica Lall’s case.

Then he directed Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which was again a big risk because we have seen that sports films have rarely worked at the box office and casting Farhan was an unusual choice.

The film went on to  become a huge hit at the box office. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag sparked the interest of sport based  film among the audience, which paved way for other films like ‘Mary Kom’ to do well at the box office. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag  was also the 6th highest grossing film of the year 2013.

The film won lots of appreciation from the critics as well as the audience. The film also crossed the 100cr mark at the box office.

After making such great films, he is now working on his upcoming project Mirziya which is a contemporary love story. It will be the first time that Rakesh is directing a love story. Well, this clearly shows that he loves to make films which he believes in.

In the movie Mirziya, we will see two newcomers Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher. Both of them are working hard for their upcoming film and are very dedicated towards the film. The movie is largely being shot in Rajasthan and Ladakh.
