New Delhi, Jan 8 (IBNS) : Sanjay Leela Bhansali's  film 'Padmavat', which raised a massive storm among a section of the Rajput community, finally looks set to release on January 25 after months of uncertainty following controversies and protests over its content.

The film, originally named 'Padmavati', but later rechristened by the film censor board, was scheduled to release on December 1, 2016, which had to be deferred in the face of raging protests.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh has confirmed the release date on Twitter saying, “#Padmavat to release on 25 Jan 2018… #RepublicDayWeekend”.

Padmavat was screened for a special bench of historians who suggested five modifications which included the change in the title from Padmavati to Padmavat.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film is said to be inspired by medieval poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s Padmavat.

It stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.

The film became the centre of a storm as the  Rajput Karni Sena objected to the way Deepika’s character was portrayed in it.

The organisation said certain portions of the film distorts the history and hurts the Rajput pride and sentiments.

Multiple death threats were issued against the filmmaker and lead actor Deepika.

However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the producers of the film are yet to release a statement on the  release date.
