'Mahabharat' director Ravi Chopra Dies at 68

Mumbai, Nov 12 (IBNS): Legendary Bollywood filmmaker Ravi Chopra died in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday. He was 68 years old.

According to TV reports, Chopra had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital a few days ago where he passed away at 3.30 pm.

Sources close to the family said that the veteran filmmaker was suffering from a neuro-degenerative disease.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Ravi Chopra belonged to illustrious Bollywood family.

His father was director and producer B R Chopra and his uncle was filmmaker Yash Chopra.

Yash Raj scions Aditya and Uday Chopra are Ravi Chopra's cousins.

Ravi Chopra is known for movies like Zameer (1975), The Burning Train (1980), Mazdoor (1983), Dahleez (1986), Baghban (2003) and Baabul (2006).

He also directed hit TV serial Mahabharata, produced by his father.

Recently he had produced fantasy films Bhoothnath and Bhoothnath Returns, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

It has been learnt that the late director also made mythological shows like Vishnu Puran and Ma Shakti.

He was expected to come back on television with his another mythological series, Vasudev Krishna in 2014-15.

Chopra had been hospitalized previously with a lung ailment in 2012.

According to reports, the funeral will be held on Thursday.
