Karan Johar unfollows SRK, Alia Bhatt and others—but keeps following Priyanka Chopra; calls it ‘digital detox’
Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar triggered massive speculation online after unfollowing several of his closest industry friends on Instagram, including Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, and designer Manish Malhotra.
Interestingly, Johar continued following actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who is now mostly known for her Hollywood projects.
Karan Johar Breaks Silence
As rumours surrounding fallout and friendship rifts gathered pace on social media, the filmmaker clarified that the move was simply part of a “digital detox”.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Karan wrote: “It’s a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!!
“This can't be national news for god's sake... please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant.”

Comeback As Director In 2026
Karan Johar is reportedly preparing for a major directorial comeback in 2026 after spending the last few years focusing largely on film production and OTT ventures.
The filmmaker had earlier confirmed on social media that he plans to “be back on set” in 2026, calling filmmaking his “only calling in life” while hinting at a return to “good old-fashioned Hindi cinema”.
What Could Karan’s Next Film Be?
Though no official announcement has been made yet, industry buzz suggests Johar is exploring a large-scale emotional family drama.
Speculation around a possible sequel to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and the revival of his shelved period drama Takht has also surfaced online, though Dharma Productions has not confirmed either project.
Johar’s last directorial venture, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, was a commercial success.
