Mumbai, May 20 (IBNS): Despite failing to impress critics, Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor's Half Girlfriend minted a decent amount of money at the domestic box-office on day one.

The movie collected a little over Rs 10 crore on Friday.

Directed by Mohit Suri, Half Girlfriend is adapted from Chetan Bhagat's namesake novel.

The film stars Shraddha Kapoor as Riya Somani, a girl from a posh family and Arjun Kapoor as Madhav Jha, a village lad with limited vocabulary in English.

Earlier, asked about her character in the film, Shraddha told IBNS-TWF, "She is basically a popular girl who has everything at her feet : best clothes, big car, wealthy family. She has everything, so, everyone feels she is very happy, she must be leading the perfect life but in reality because of some situation in her life, she is somewhere very scared to fall in love. So, when Madhav comes in her life, he brings that simplicity that really makes her happy."

She also added that she felt a strong connection between her reel (Ria) and real self.

"The simple things in life really make Ria happy. I can connect with that. I feel it is the little things that really matter and can give you long lasting happiness," Shraddha said.

Half Girlfriend also marks the debut pairing of Shraddha and Arjun, who made his Bollywood debut with the acclaimed Ishaqzaade.

Speaking about her co-star, Shraddha compliment Arjun as a hardworking individual.

"He is great to work with. He is very eloquent be it in Hindi or English. He has worked very hard on his diction. He brings in that innocence in the film which is visible in his eyes and also the required emotions of his character. He was more expressive and now he is lot more calm," she added.

Half Girlfriend released in India on May 19.
