Youth arrested for raping and killing 5-year-old minor girl in Assam’s Hojai

Guwahati/IBNS: Police have arrested a youth who allegedly raped and murdered a 5-year-old minor girl in Assam’s Hojai district on Friday.

The incident took place at Dariabasti area in the central Assam district.

According to the reports, the child was missing since February 26 and the body of the victim was recovered by her father from a jungle area and immediately informed local police.

Following investigation, police had arrested a youth identified as Bikram Harijan alias Chandan of the same village of the victim girl.

Locals had gheraoed Hojai police station and demanded the police to take strong action against the culprit.

During police interrogation, the accused person had confessed his crime.

“I had committed the crime. I took her into the jungle area and raped her. She died on spot,” the accused person said.

Police had registered a case (no – 164/2020) under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 at Hojai police station.
