Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in India on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, during which he is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the mega event in New Delhi.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada received Xi at the airport.

Welcoming the Chinese President to India, Prasada posted on X: “A warm welcome was extended to the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Mr. Xi Jinping, on his arrival in India to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit.”

“With the sacred spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, a hearty welcome and felicitation to you on the historic soil of India!” he added.

Expressing hope that Xi’s visit would contribute to improving India-China ties, Prasada said, “We are fully confident that the in-depth and meaningful deliberations during this important summit will prove to be extremely fruitful in the direction of global peace, prosperity, and shared development.”

Ahead of the bilateral meeting between Xi and Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said the two countries would focus on properly managing their differences while strengthening friendship and good-neighbourly relations.

Feihong said in a post on X that China and India were making arrangements for the bilateral meeting between Xi and Modi.

“This will be the third year in a row for the two leaders to meet with each other, following their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin,” he said.

“China will work with India to act on the strategic guidance of the two leaders, handle the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, step up communication, enhance cooperation, properly handle differences, and be friends enjoying good-neighbourliness and partners helping each other succeed,” Feihong added.
