Won't return with empty hands this time: Mamata Banerjee to crowd in Malda

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged people of Malda to vote for the Trinamool Congress, which has not been able to make a dent in the district even during the heydays.

"I have been here for 30 years now. Each time, I used to get enthused by the massive gathering but when elections come, I have always been left with empty hands.

"I have not won in the Lok Sabha polls ever from here and has almost a blank in the assembly. We have a few members who came from Congress in Malda. But this time I have not come here to return with empty hands," Banerjee said.

Countering Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Dilip Ghosh told a news channel, "She should answer why she had not been able to win for so long? People have now realised so the Trinamool will be wiped out from north Bengal."

Banerjee during a rally in Raiganj earlier in the day accused the BJP men of feasting in the name of Rath Yatra, that has remained as a new political flashpoint in the state.

Addressing a rally at Raiganj in north Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress supremo said, "There is no idol in the rath. They are feasting inside the rath.

"I have no problem if the rath is carrying the idols of Jagannath, Balaram, Subhadra. Why would BJP leaders be there? Are they bigger than Jagannath, Balaram, Subhadra, Krishna?"

"They are feasting on public money. This is a shame in the name of Gods. They are doing immortal things," she added.
