West Bengal: TMC leader shot dead in South 24 Parganas

Kolkata/UNI: Trinamool Congress leader (local) Mohoram Sheikh (35), who was shot at near his Canning home in South 24 Parganas on Saturday evening, succumbed to his multiple wounds at the SSKM hospital in the city at the wee hours on Sunday, police investigating the crime said.

Local TMC president at Saathmukhi village (Canning) Mohoram Sheikh, who was returning to his home at Nikharighata around 1900 hours on Saturday, was surrounded by unidentified gunmen who shot him from close range.

He was taken to local hospital which referred to the SSKM hospital in the city where he died early on Sunday.

Eyewitness Md Sheikh, who is also brother of the deceased, said three gunmen shot his elder brother and snatched the victim's gold chain before fleeing.
Police detained two suspects for interrogation.
