West Bengal health officer show-caused for observing PM Modi's 9baje9minute call in hospital
Kolkata/IBNS: The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of West Bengal's Jhargram district has issued a show-cause notice to the Medical Officer of state-run Belpahari Rural Hospital, Tirtha Prasad Chakraborty, for turning off lights and lighting diyas in the hospital on last Sunday (Apr 5) in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "9 baje 9 minutes" appeal to defeat novel coronavirus, reports said on Saturday.
Officials of the health department said that they were looking into the matter very carefully as the diya lighting event could cause a fire incident or any other accident in the hospital.
In the show-cause letter, the Medical Officer of the rural hospital has been asked "who had given instruction or insisted to do so", "who spent the money for purchasing candles and diyas", "who had purchased all these items", "who had given permission to take photos and videos of the event", and "why those photos and videos were uploaded on social media".
"You are an employee of state government, will you receive any instruction or order from the Government of West Bengal to do so," the show-cause notice further asked.
However, no reaction has been received on the matter so far, either from the CMOH or from the medical officer who has received the show-cause letter.

Earlier on Apr 5, responding to PM Modi's call for "9 Baje9Minutes", Indians across the nation put off their lights and lighted candles, diyas, torches and mobile flashes to show their unity in fight against Covid-19.
Some videos and pictures of Belpahari Rural Hospital were found on social media which showed how PM's "9 Baje 9 Minute" call was observed in the hospital.
