Kolkata, Oct 8 (IBNS): An 18-year-old girl reportedly committed suicide at her residence in Egra in West Bengal's East Midnapore district on Monday, nine days after her boyfriend was killed in a tragic accident in Kolkata.

According to reports, 12th standard student of a local school, Sreyashi Maity, was found hanging from ceiling inside the attic room of her house in Egra's Dobabdhi-Mirzapur area in the morning.

The girl was rushed to a nearby health centre where she was pronounced dead.

"Sreyashi went into a deep depression after hearing about her boyfriend's tragic death and she committed suicide on Monday morning when nobody was there in the house," a family member of the girl told IBNS.

Earlier on Sep 30 morning, Sreyashi Maity's boyfriend, a 27-year-old Public Service Commission (PSC) examinee from Egra, Nityananda Das, with earphones plugged in reportedly fell off a moving suburban train near Dum Dum railway station and died.

"Sreyashi used to take private tuition from Nityananda Das and we had no idea about their relationship until Nityananda's accidental death," the girl's family member added.

Local police, however, have begun probe into the unnatural death of the 18-year-old girl.
