Kolkata/IBNS: Days after resigning as the Chandannagar Police Commissioner, Humayun Kabir on Tuesday joined West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress.

Kabir joined the party in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee during a political rally in Purba Bardhaman.

According to reports, the 2003 batch IPS officer tendered his resignation showing some "personal" reasons.

Joining the Trinamool, he said, "I was inspired by Mamata Banerjee's work at the time of the pandemic and Amphan so I have joined the party."

Earlier, Kabir's wife Anindita Das Kabir had joined the Trinamool.

An aggressive Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had registered an unprecedented gain in the 2019 General Elections, is aiming to unseat Banerjee, who is seeking to become the Chief Minister for the third straight term.
