Kolkata, Jun 26 (IBNS): A woman from Bidhanpalli area under Titagarh police station in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal was arrested on Thursday for allegedly rubbing chili powder on her adopted 6-year-old daughter's genitals, reports said.

According to reports, the accused woman, Sandhya Sen allegedly rubbed chili powder on her adopted 6-year-old daughter's genitals as the child peed on the bed while sleeping.

The girl fainted and was admitted to the R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night.

"She is stable and under treatment, may be released soon," one doctor told IBNS.

Police arrested accused Sandhya Sen and her husband Shyamal Sen on Thursday night.

Shyamal told the police that he was not present when his wife did the action, reports said.

However, they were produced in the court on Friday.

Shyamal got bail but his wife was sent to the judicial custody for 14 days.

Four years ago, Sen couple adopted the child from her aunt without any legal procedure, reports said.
