Vijay Mallya suffers setback in UK High Court, loses appeal against extradition
London/IBNS: The England and Wales High Court on Monday dismissed fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya's appeal against his extradition to India, media reports said.
Mallya is wanted in India for defaulting on Rs 9,000 crore in loans to his failed Kingfisher Airlines which closed operations in 2012.
Now British Home Secretary Priti Patel will take the final decision on Mallya's extradition.
Mallya, owner of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines who now lives in the UK, fled India in March 2016.
The businessman in a tweet on Mar 31 said his offer to clear the dues was not entertained by the banks.
Mallya had tweeted, "I have made repeated offers to pay 100 % of the amount borrowed by KFA to the Banks. Neither are Banks willing to take money and neither is the ED willing to release their attachments which they did at the behest of the Banks. I wish the FM would listen in this time of crisis."
