Three Manipuri drug smugglers held in Guwahati, Rs 74 lakh unaccounted cash recovered

Guwahati/IBNS: Police arrested three drug smugglers hailing from Manipur and seized unaccounted cash amount of Rs 74 lakh in Guwahati on Tuesday night.

Based on an intelligence input, a police team had launched an operation at Solapara area in Guwahati city.

The police team had conducted an operation on the 4th floor of Kalchini apartment at Solapara area.

During the operation, the police team seized an unaccounted cash amount of Rs 74,05,600 from the flat of the apartment.

Police had also arrested three persons identified as 55-year-old Sangita Rani Laishangbam, 53-year-old Sam Laithangbam and 32-year-old Thangkhosat.

A police officer said that they were allegedly involved in an illicit traffic of narcotropic substances.

“The seized amount is suspected to be utilized in financing of illicit traffic of narcotropic substance. Sangita Laishanbam was earlier arrested in Basistha police station case no 449/19 (under section of 22 NDPS act) where she was found in possession of narcotropic substance,” the police officer said.

Sangita was constantly in touch with known drug peddlers, and was suspected to be supplying drugs to one Tashur Ali who was arrested in Bharalumukh police station case no 315/2020 (under section of 22 (B) NDPS act.).
