Suspected ISI agent nabbed in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 14 (IBNS): The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested one suspected ISI agent from Kolkata.

According to reports, the suspect, Akhtar Khan alias Raju was nabbed from Colootola area under Jorasanko Police Station in central Kolkata.

The STF also recovered ATM card of Pakistan's bank, fake Indian currency and several passports of different countries from him.

Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Hdq), Rajeev Mishra said in a press conference here, "We arrested one suspect- Akhtar Khan- from Central Kolkata with several incriminating documents and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs 1,72,500. We are investigating to verify whether he is an ISI agent or not."

After primary interrogation, police have come to know that Akhter Khan went to Pakistan in 1985 and stayed at his relative's residence in Karachi for more than 20 years, police sources said.

The source further revealed that, Khan was also issued a passport of Pakistan in 1991 under the name Md. Javed. After completing ISI training, he entered into India via Nepal in 2008. His spouse and two children still live in Karachi.

However, he has been charged under IPC sections 120-B (Criminal conspiracy), 121 (Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India), 121-A (Conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121), 122 (Collecting arms, etc., with intention of waging war against the Government of India), 489-B (Using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes), 489-C (Possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) and will be produced to the Bankshall Court on Sunday.

According to police sources, they will appeal for his police custody before the court for more interrogation to know about Khan's network across Kolkata.
