Srinagar: Three Kashmir-based politicians released
Srinagar, Oct 10 (UNI) Three politicians, including former PDP MLA Yawar Mir, were on Thursday released after remaining under detention since August 5, when centre abrogated Article 370 and Article 35 A, besides bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.
Official sources said that Mr Mir, former Congress district Baramulla president Shoaib Lone and National Conference (NC) leader Noor Mohammad were released on Thursday.
“The leaders were released on various ground and had to sign documents assuring that they will not disrupt peace and harmony in the valley,” they added.
The governor administration had earlier released three Kashmir-based politicians, including Peoples Conference leader and former minister Imran Raza Ansari, National Conference leader Syed Akhoon and PDP leader Khursheed Alam.
Over a thousand people, including politicians, activists, separatists and business association leaders, were detained in August to ‘maintain law and order’ after Centre abrogated special status of the state. Three former chief ministers – Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti – remain detained since August 5.
Dr Farooq, who was last month slapped with Public Safety Act (PSA), remained under detention at his Srinagar residence while Omar and Mehbooba have been lodged in separate state guest houses.
Meanwhile, majority of the Jammu-based leaders of different political parties were released from detention last week. Later, a delegation of NC leaders headed by its Provisional President, Jammu, met Dr Farooq and Mr Abdullah in Srinagar.
