Guwahati, Jun 22 (IBNS)  : In a setback to Paresh Baruah-led  United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I), six militants of the banned organisation surrendered with arms before the Assam police in Guwahati on Thursday.

The militants surrendered one AK-56 rifle, one HK 33 rifle, one MQ 81 rifle, two grenades, eight magazines, 301 rounds live ammunition, TNT powder and o other warlike stores.

The six militants are Pranab Gogoi alias Suklang Asom, Apurba Moran alias Mridu Asom, Satyajit Moran alias Manab Asom, Jishu Doley alias Syang Asom, Rituraj Moran alias Durlav Asom and Abhijit Gohain alias Anuj Asom.

According to the Assam police, the surrendered ULFA-I militants were fed up with their leaders'  activities like kidnapping of indigenous tea workers and destroying the tea industry in Assam. Also, they could no longer bear with the difficulties faced in Myanmar, where many of the cadre have been camping for long and had scant regard for their leaders.
