Shillong violence: Curfew imposed again
Shillong, June 4 (IBNS): Curfew has returned in parts of Meghalaya capital Shillong after fresh violence were reported in the city on Monday.
About 1,000 central paramilitary personnel have been sent to Meghalaya to control the violence which broke last Thursday after a bus conductor and three others were assaulted by some people at Them Aew Mawlong, a Punjabi settlement in Shillong.
Earlier the day, concerned about reports of security threats to Sikhs in Shillong, a four-member delegation of the Punjab government on Monday visited Shillong to take stock of the situation.
The team led by Cabinet minister Sukhjinder Randhawa, along with MPs Gurjit Aujla and Ravneet Bittu, and MLA Kuldip Singh Vaid, arrived in Shillong and took stock the situation.
The team also met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The team will also meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
