Sexual assault cases: Kerala HC warns officials

Kochi/UNI: In a recent judgement, Kerala High Court has directed officials to be more cautious while taking up sexual assault cases.

It directed investigation officials, prosecutors and courts to exercise caution in this regard.

The court directed not to name anyone as accused without sufficient evidence, even in cases where Protection of Children from Sexual Offences charges are involved.

"If innocents are named accused in such cases, they will later become the real victims,'' the court observed, while announcing the verdict on a sexual assault case registered in 2018 in Pampady in Kottayam.

Police registered a case after a female student's complaint. The 13-year-old had complained that a private bus conductor had hit her on the arm with his shoulder.
Though the police registered a case, the girl was contradicted by other people inside the bus, including students.

The court dismissed the case.
