Several people missing after boat capsizes in Jia Bharali river in Assam's Sonitpur district

Guwahati: Several people are reportedly missing after a country-made boat capsized in Jia Bharali river in Assam's Sonitpur district on Thursday.

According  to reports, the boat was heading from Bihia Gaon near Lal Tapu to Panch Mile area in Tezpur got upside down on the way.

Around 70 to 80 people along with several motorbikes were onboard when the vessel capsized.

The locals were travelling to Tezpur Panch Mile for the weekly market which is set up on every Thursdays.

Few people have swum to safety places.

Meanwhile, SDRF and district administration personnel have reached the spot to rescue the missing people.
