Row over book comparing Shivaji with PM Modi should end, says Javadekar

New Delhi/UNI: BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has suggested that the row over a book that compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chhatrapati Shivaji should end as the book was 'not a BJP project'.

"The book released recently has nothing to do with the BJP. It was not a BJP project. Moreover, the author has apologised and withdrawn his book. I think the controversy should rest," he tweeted.

Mr Javadekar further wrote: "Shivaji Maharaj was a great ruler and a legendary King who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people. He is an inspiration even today after centuries. We regard him as incomparable with others".

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' in its editorial flayed BJP leaders and said, comparing Mr Modi with Shivaji Maharaj was an act of "sycophancy" and it seeks to 'insult the country, God and religion'.

Sambhaji Raje, BJP MP in Rajya Sabha, and a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has demanded that the book be banned.

The BJP on Monday denied that it had any role in publication of a new book which does a comparison between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shivaji.

"Our party has nothing to do with the book or its content," BJP co incharge media Sanjay Mayukh told reporters here.

The row has been sparked off after a book penned by party leader Jay Bhagwan Goyal claimed that Prime Minister Modi could be compared with Shivaji.

Mr Goyal has, meanwhile, said he is ready to revise the chapter if he has hurt the sentiments of some people.

NCP leader Dhananjay Munde said the book has hurt the feelings of people in Maharashtra.
