Rival student groups clash outside Delhi's Ramjas college over Umar Khalid seminar
Police swung into action to bring the situation under control even as many were injured in the violence.
Students from the college were supposed to march to Maurice Nagar police station, demanding action against the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP, which allegedly had forced cancellation of the programme.
According to reports, the agitating students, said to be belonging to the All India Students' Association (AISA),a Left body, were allegedly stopped by ABVP members and a fight broke out.
ABVP leader Abhishek Verma told NDTV later that there was no violence and they are not against discussion. "But you need to maintain decorum. The college students and teachers didn't want Umar Khalid," he told the channel .
On Tuesday, a seminar at Ramjas College was cancelled after ABVP members protested against the participation of Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid Shora.
The ABVP dubbed Khalid 'anti-national.'
A sedition case was slapped on Khalid Umar and Kanhaiya Kumar a years ago in connection with an event organised at JNU on Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
