Religion should never surface during election time: Kiren Rijiju

During an election campaign rally of BJP candidate of 30 A/C Alongtaki A/C, Temjen Imna Along, at Longto in Mokokchung district Rijiju said that, religion is above everything. Christianity is serving the humanity, all are children of God and all are equal.

“Politics is a daily democratic affair and in a democracy elections are held every five years. Therefore, even if one supports a certain political party, they should not condemn another political party,” Rijiju said

The Union MoS for Home said that, every day the BJP is becoming more popular and in the last four years of BJP rule in the country, there has not been a single case of corruption against the BJP ministers or leaders.

“As the popularity of BJP is growing everyday in the state, some people are spreading false rumours and trying to create confusion. Mixing religion with politics is a sin. Who are these people misguiding the people,” Rijiju said.

Rijiju further said that, in the last 60 years of Congress rule, the Congress had not brought any significant development in the country and therefore had nothing to boast of its achievements but only criticize the BJP.

The minister further reiterated that the BJP government under Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has special concern for the Nagas.

He said when election was declared for the state of Nagaland, every political party including the NPF and NNDP wanted to have an alliance with the BJP.

Rijiju said that, if the BJP was really hungry for power, then it would have contested all 60 seats on its own. However taking into consideration the future and aspirations of the Naga people, the BJP decided to have an alliance with a regional party.

“So finally, the party leadership met in Delhi took a decision that Nagaland being a ‘sensitive state’ and its problem ‘unique’ and with the ongoing political negotiations, the need for a regional political party led by a tall and senior leader when the framework agreement is signed for the greater interest of Nagas,” Rijiju said.

To escalate the BJP’s election campaign in Nagaland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the poll bound state and to address an election rally in Tuensang along with the Myanmar border.

Rijiju said that, Modi choose to come to ENPO area as the Eastern Nagas were facing the most hardships.

He said Modi himself would announce what he can offer to the Eastern Naga people.
