Railway Minister appeals to demonstrators not to disrupt rail services

Kolkata, Feb 21 (IBNS) The Railway tracks should not be used to hold demonstration disrupting railway services causing embarrassment to general public, opined the Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of construction of underground work between Airport and Jessore Road for completion of Phase – I of Noapara – Airport – Barasat metro Project at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport today, the Railway Minister appealed to the demonstrators at Haryana and West Bengal to keep clear of the Railway lines.

Referring to the unwarranted situation at Haryana, Prabhu said, rail property of crores of rupees were damaged as a result of the demonstration and it will have a cascading effect on the exchequer.

The Railway Minister however expressed optimism in carrying the ‘Midas touch’ of development to the east and north-east which have immense potential ranging from tourism to food processing and assured that the Railways will play its role in fulfilling the demand of the transportation sector of these areas.

Prabhu also announced the introduction of 14 extra Metro Services, 10 between Dum Dum and Noapara and 4 between Dum Dum and Kabi Subhas during peak hours from Monday, Feb 22.

On the occasion, the Minister also inaugurated the new-Approach Road from Belgachhia Road Over Bridge to Kolkata Station and dedicated the newly built Foot Over Bridge at Naihati Railway station, both under the Eastern Railway and laid the foundation stone of one such Foot Over Bridge at Ranaghat Railway Station, Prabhu also inaugurated the commencement of construction of 14.5 Km long Broad Gauge Link Line between Sankrail & Santragachi via flyover under South Eastern Railway.

Dr. Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, the MP from Barasat and Prof. Sougata Roy, the MP from Dum Dum were present at the function.
