President Kovind urges forest officers to balance conservation needs with development requirements

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IBNS): Forests are not merely a resource but they also cover the cultural, spiritual and intellectual heritage of the country, said President Ramnath Kovind while meeting the probationers of Indian Forest Service (2016 Batch) from Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun.

The probationer foresters had called on the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.

Depletion in forest cover and global warming are leading to climate change, the President said.

Addressing the officers, President Kovind said, "Treat people living in and around the forests, as partners in management and not as intruders. Forest Officers have to strike a balance between conservation needs and development requirements."
