Police seize 48.14 kg of gold worth over Rs 22 crore from a vehicle in Nagaland

Guwahati: Nagaland police have seized 48.14 kg of gold worth over Rs 22 crore from a vehicle and apprehended two persons.

Nagaland ADGP (Adm) Sandeep M. Tamgadge said along with the rest of the country, the spirit of controlling narcotic in our state has also been enforce to ensured that the main highways from neighbouring states is made free of all kinds of illegal activities.

While providing the details about the seizure and recovery of smuggled gold and illegal contraband of heroin and opium, he said that on October 3 the Narcotic Cell PS personnel of Nagaland Police manning the interstate Narcotic Check Point at Khuzama, Kohima, intercepted an XUV-300 B/R No. MN-01AS-1325 on the Kohima-Imphal National Highway and thorough search resulted in recovery of smuggled gold hidden inside the cover of gear lever of the vehicle, packed neatly in 29 packets, each packet containing 10 (ten) gold bars weighing approximately 166 grams each and the total weight of the gold bars was 48.14 Kg (approx).

The market value of the seized gold is estimated at Rs. 22,78,46,620.

He informed that this seizure is the State’s single biggest seizure of the smuggled bullion.

“The smuggled gold and the vehicle has been seized and two persons Saurabh Singh (35 yrs), S/o Jaypal Singh, and Pawan Kumar (45 yrs), S/o Jitendraveer Singh, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, have been detained for further questioning to initiate appropriate legal action,” he said.

Sandeep M. Tamgadge also informed that on October 2, Narcotic Cell PS personnel of Nagaland Police manning the interstate Narcotic Check Point at Khuzama, Kohima, recovered and seized illegal contraband suspected to be Heroin packed in 46 (forty six) soap cases weighing approximately 552 grams from the possession of one Md. Riyajuddin, S/o Md. Abdul Hasim, R/o-Imphal, Manipur.

October 3, also recovered and seized illegal contraband suspected to be opium packed in 12 (twelve) packets wrapped with brown tape weighing approximately 1 (one) Kg each from the possession of 2 (two) persons Tularam Sarki (41 yrs), S/o Bir Bahadur Sarki and Sagar Ghaii (22 yrs), S/o Dil Bahadur, both residents of Manipur.

In these connections, a regular case vide Narcotic Cell PS case no. 11/2021 U/S21 (c)/60 NDPS Act and Narcotic Cell PS case no. 12/2021 u/s 18 (b)/60 NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation.

In other incident, the ADGP (Adm) Sandeep M. Tamgadge reported that based on specific intelligence input about movement of illegal drugs along NH-29, Highway Patrol Unit of Kohima Police on October 4 under the supervision of SDPO (North) intercepted one Maruti Baleno B/R No. AS01DF-6555 and detected 532 grams of suspected Heroin neatly packed in 42 soap cases worth approximately 2 (two) crores in the international market, and arrested 4 persons, Chochong Thomsong (24 yrs), Lunlalsem Haokip (27 yrs), Lunminlal Doungel (18 yrs), and Alein Thomsong (26 yrs) along with the vehicle.

Accordingly, a case has been registered at Sechu (Zubza) Police Station for further investigation.
