Sri Nagar/IBNS: The decorated police officer caught with three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists will face anti-terror charges and those relating to the Arms and Explosives Act, state law enforcement authorities have confirmed, reported media.

Davinder Singh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police posted at Srinagar International Airport, was caught Saturday at Wanpoh in Kulgam district. Singh received President's Police Medal for Gallantry last year and was part of the envoys of 15 foreign nations on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

He was travelling to Delhi with the three armed terrorists.

"Yesterday, during an operation in Shopian, one Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was arrested along with wanted Hizbul Mujahideen militants, while they were travelling together in a vehicle on the National Highway," said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police in Srinagar, reported NDTV.

Singh was tracked down and his vehicle was stopped by Kumar and other cops following a tip off from the Superintendent of Police in Shopian district, .

Police are investigating the motive behind transporting the terrorists to Delhi.

After the arrests, arms and ammunition were seized from various parts of the city. An Ak-47 and two pistols were found in Davinder Singh's residence in Srinagar's Indranagar area. His residence shares a wall with Army's 15 Corps.

"He (Davinder Singh) has worked on several anti-militancy operations. But circumstances under which he was arrested... is a heinous crime. That is why he is being treated at par with the militants," he said, quoted NDTV.

One of the terrorists, Naveed Babu, nabbed in the operation was a police constable and left service to join the terror outfit in 2017. He is now a district commander of Hizbul Mujhaidin.

He was involved in the killing of 11 non-local truck drivers and labourers in southern Kashmir last year. He also accused of killing several police officers and civilians and has 18 FIRs registered against him, said Kumar.
