Guwahati, Novr 3 : Poachers killed another one- horned rhinoceros in the world heritage site Kaziranga National Park and chopped off its horn on Thursday night, officials said on Friday.

According to the reports, poachers killed a male rhino inside the national park near Tunakati and Chanak forest camp area under Burhapahar forest range.

"Forest guards  immediately rushed to the area after hearing the sounds of shots. They found the bullet-ridden carcass of a male rhino with its horn missing. The poachers had managed to flee by that time," a forest official of the national park said.

The forest official also said  the poachers had used sophisticated weapons.

Forest guards and and Assam police personnel have launched a massive operation against the poachers in nearby areas.
