PM Modi in poll-bound West Bengal today, to inaugurate developmental projects

Kolkata/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday inaugurate various developmental projects in poll-bound West Bengal, where he is making his third visit in 30 days.

At 4:30 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate several railway projects in Hooghly, West Bengal.

Modi, who is the chief campaigner of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will hold a public meeting at Chuchura Dunlop Ground in Hooghly where he is likely to target the ruling Trinamool Congress.

The Prime Minister had earlier visited the state on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary on Jan 23 and to attend a government programme on Feb 7.

The BJP, which has swept various parts of the country, had managed to win only three seats compared to the Trinamool's 211 seats in the 2016 assembly elections.

However in the Lok Sabha elections three years later, the BJP took a huge jump in the state politics by winning 18 of 42 seats, wresting the opposition's space in once-a-Left citadel.

The political climate of the state has further gained heat after Trinamool MP and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Narula and sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir were sent notices by India's prime investigating agency over an alleged coal scam.

While the BJP has asked for a fair trial so that the "truth" comes out, Abhishek issued a strong statement alleging vendetta politics.

Abhishek tweeted, "At 2pm today, the CBI served a notice in the name of my wife. We have full faith in the law of the land. However, if they think they can use these ploys to intimidate us, they are mistaken. We are not the ones who would ever be cowed down."
