PM Modi chairs meet with CMs, invokes 'Team India' spirit amid Middle East crisis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to review India’s preparedness in view of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact.
The meeting focused on assessing risks to supply chains, energy security, and the availability of essential commodities.
PM Modi expressed confidence that India would overcome challenges through coordinated efforts, invoking the “Team India” approach seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that the evolving situation requires constant monitoring and adaptive strategies. An Inter-Ministerial Group, operational since March 3, has been conducting daily reviews and taking timely decisions, he added.
The Prime Minister outlined key priorities, including maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, safeguarding citizens’ interests, and strengthening supply chains.
Emphasising the role of states, Modi called for close coordination between the Centre and state governments, urging timely information-sharing and joint decision-making. He also directed states to ensure smooth supply chains and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering.
States were asked to activate control rooms at both state and district levels and maintain administrative alertness to prevent disruptions.
The Prime Minister also stressed advance planning in agriculture, particularly monitoring fertiliser availability ahead of the Kharif season.
Cautioning against misinformation, he highlighted the need for timely dissemination of accurate information to prevent public panic, while also warning against online fraud and fake agents.
Special focus was given to border and coastal states to manage shipping, essential supplies, and maritime operations. States with citizens in the region were advised to activate helplines, appoint nodal officers, and set up support systems for affected families.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed participants on measures taken by the government, including steps to ensure LPG availability and reductions in excise duties on petrol and diesel.
Chief Ministers reported that the situation in their states remained stable, with adequate supplies of fuel and essential commodities.
