BJP attacks Rahul Gandhi over woman cop row, calls him ‘anarchic, anti-constitutional’
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha of behaving inappropriately with a woman police officer during an Opposition protest in Delhi.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticised Gandhi over a video that purportedly showed him pushing past a woman police officer during a protest near Jantar Mantar.
The allegations have triggered a political exchange between the BJP and the Congress.
“How can a male leader touch a woman police officer in the wrong way? Women police officers have the right to dignity, same as the women protesters,” Bhatia said, addressing a press conference.
The BJP spokesperson questioned Gandhi’s conduct and accused him of undermining the dignity of women police personnel.

He also criticised the Congress leader for not addressing the controversy surrounding the video.
BJP questions Rahul Gandhi’s conduct
Bhatia described Gandhi’s alleged conduct as shameful and accused him of displaying disregard for the dignity of a woman officer.
The BJP has used the incident to intensify its criticism of Gandhi, with party leaders questioning his actions during the Opposition’s protests.
The allegations relate to demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Opposition parties have been challenging the electoral revision process and raising concerns over alleged irregularities.
Row over opposition protests
The BJP has also accused Gandhi and other Opposition leaders of undermining constitutional institutions through their protests against the Election Commission.
The Opposition, meanwhile, has questioned the electoral revision exercise and sought accountability over alleged voter-list irregularities.
The confrontation comes amid escalating tensions between the BJP and the Congress over the functioning of the Election Commission, the SIR process and allegations of electoral malpractice.
The latest exchange adds to the ongoing political battle between the ruling party and the Opposition over the conduct of protests and the independence of constitutional institutions.
