PC Chacko resigns as Delhi Congress chief, blames Sheila Dikshit for party's downfall

New Delhi/IBNS: After the Congress failed to open its account in the Delhi assembly elections, party's Delhi unit chief PC Chacko resigned on Wednesday, media reports said.

Chacko resigned a day after the Congress was routed in the national capital where the party had ruled for 15 consecutive years under late Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Chacko also blamed Dikshit for the downfall of the Congress. "The downfall of the Congress started in 2013 when Sheila ji was the Chief Minister," he said and added, the AAP, which was a new party in 2013, took away all votes of the Congress.

In the 2015 Delhi assembly polls too, the Congress had drawn a blank.

In almost a repeat of its previous assembly poll performance, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) swept the elections by winning 62 of 70 seats.

The BJP could only win eight seats.
