Parking charges may hike to curb air pollution in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 7 (IBNS): People in Delhi are likely to pay more for parking in the city after the Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPPCA) held a meeting on Tuesday, media reports said.

The charge may go up by four times as per the decision taken by the EPPCA.

The green panel has recommended a lowering of metro fares in the office hours and bringing back the odd-even rule, earlier tried by the Arvind Kejriwal government.

Regarding the crop burning which is leading to the air pollution, Delhi chief minister Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday saying: "Delhi has become a gas chamber. Every year this happens during this part of year. We have to find a soln to crop burning in adjoining states."

The air pollution has been an issue at the national capital for a long time that had prompted the imposition of ban on sale of fire crackers by the Supreme Court in October.

The ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi had been imposed considering the increase in air pollution in the NCR.
