Pune, June 25 (IBNS): Participating in the Smart Cities Mission event here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said people in India are the 'smartest' and Indian cities have strength and capacity to mitigate poverty.

"Cities are not only growth centres. Our cities have strength and capacity to mitigate poverty. People find work in cities," PM Modi said.

"The people of India are the smartest. Once their skills are harnessed then see the wonders that will happen," he said.

Modi said people of the cities have to decide about the development of their urban spaces.

" These decisions can't be taken in Delhi," he said.

He urged people to consider urbanization as an oppurtunity.

"Our urban spaces have to focus on solid waste management," he said.
