Odisha's top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda arrested

Bhubaneswar, July 18 (IBNS) Top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda has been arrested from Odisha’s Ganjum district in the wee hours of Friday, police sources said.

Acting on an intelligence tip-off, Odisha police arrested Panda from his hideout in Berhampur town. He was absconding and wanted in over 50 criminal cases.

The arrested Maoist leader was involved in the abduction of two Italian tourists.

Besides many other criminal charges, Panda was also allegedly involved in the murder of Swami Laxamananda Saraswati and four of his associates in Kandhamal district in 2008 that had triggered communal conflicts in the region.
