No license for liquor shops in Srinagar airport

Srinagar, Nov 3 (IBNS) : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued an order disallowing opening of  liquor shops at the Srinagar airport.

 

The Government says opening of liquor shops in the area  "violates" the provisions of J&K excise Act and liquor License and Sales Rules.

“It is here intimated that the J&K excise Department shall not grant Liquor license for opening of liquor shop/ vend at Srinagar International airport in violation of to the provisions of J&K excise Act, 1958 and liquor License and Sales Rules, 1984," the order issued by Excise Department of state on Friday reads.

"It is further intimated that opening of liquor vend/ shop at the international airport Srinagar will not be allowed/ permitted as such you may stop the process of any such proposal, as the Excise Department will not grant license required for opening of liquor vend/shop at the international airport."  the order added.

Earlier, the Airports Authority of India had decided to open its first liquor shop at Srinagar International Airport as part of a central government initiative to set up such outlets in  all aerodromes across the country.

However, AAI later cancelled the proposal.
