No confidence motion against Govt to be taken up on Friday
New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): For the first time in 15 years, a no-confidence motion against the Government will be taken up on Friday after the notice, moved by the Congress, Telugu Desam Party and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party, was accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday.
According to media reports, more than 50 opposition lawmakers supported the notice for the No Confidence motion.
The no-confidence notice, brought by the TDP, is the sequel to its running battle with the Centre over the demand for according special financial status to Andhra Pradesh- the issue, which prompted Chandrababu Naidu's party to pull out of the NDA Government earlier this year.
Though the BJP faces no danger as it has more than 50 per cent members in the Lok Sabha, the TDP and its supporters see an opportunity to make a political point before next year's Parliamentary elections.
In 2003 Sonia Gandhi had moved a no-confidence motion against the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA Government, despite being short in number to put the Government in peril.
The TDP had moved a notice for no-confidence motion against the government during the budget session too. But notice could not be taken up as the Speaker insisted on decorum inside the House in face of continuous protests by the AIADMK and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anant Kumar has been quoted by NDTV, "The opposition may have no confidence on PM Narendra Modi's Government, but I want to make it absolutely clear in the House that the people of the country have full confidence."
