My statement on Yale was misconstrued: Irani

New Delhi, Aug 11 (IBNS): Amid fresh controversy over her educational qualification, Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Monday clarified that her remarks on participation at Yale university's leadership program were 'misconstrued'.

Irani tweeted: "Unfortunate that statement re my participation in a leadership program & certificate thereafter was misconstrued."

Triggering a controversy, the actor-turned-politician recently asserted that she also has a degree from the Yale University in the US.

After the Lok Sabha polls results were declared in May, Irani found herself in mid of a row as it emerged that she had made contradictory declarations when she contested the parliamentary polls in 2004 and 2014.

Congress leader Ajay Maken sparked a political controversy by questioning Irani's education qualification.

"What a Cabinet of Modi?HRD Minister (Looking after Education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate!Look at her affidavit at ECI site pg 11!" Maken had tweeted.
