New Delhi/UNI: In a show of strength, two protest rallies are taking place in Mumbai on Friday over the new citizenship law passed by the Indian government this month.

While one rally is taking place in favour of the  Citizenship Amendment Act, the other one is being held opposing it.

Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis joined the rally in support of the CAA and said some people are trying to misled people over the CAA issue.

The rally in support of the CAA is taking place in August Kranti Maidan.

The other rally is taking place in Azad Maidan.

Meanwhile, anti-CAA and National Register of Citizens protests continued in New Delhi on Friday with the police in a state of high alert at sensitive areas.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation briefly shut down Lok Kalyan Marg station in the afternoon.

Protestors gathered outside Jama Masjid in the walled city, Jor Bagh near Karbala in South Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia University in South East Delhi and Seelampur in North-East Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in the Chanakya Puri area also witnessed protests.

Agitators were persuaded initially to demonstrate at the designated areas but were detained when they flouted the police advisory.

Around 30 people were detained from outside UP Bhawan and taken to Mandir Marg Police Station. They will be released after verification, a police official said.

Heavy deployment of police force was seen outside UP Bhawan.

Protestors at Jor Bagh, Karbala, numbered about 60 to 70 people, who demanded release of 'Bhim Army' chief Chandrashekhar Azad.

Demonstrations also continued in the Shaheen Bagh area where not only students from Jamia, but from several other universities along with locals agitated in a peaceful manner against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the alleged police brutality against students in the campus on December 15, Sunday.

Anti-CAA protest also occurred in Kolkata on Friday where Left and Congress leaders participated.
