Militant killed in Kashmir encounter

Srinagar, Jan 3 (IBNS) : A militant was killed in a brief encounter after Government forces laid an ambush in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district late on Monday night.

Sources in the defence said acting on a tip-off, security forces laid a cordon in   Haritar village of Sopore town, some 55 km from Winter

Capital Srinagar.

“One militant, whose identity was not immediately established, died in the shooting while his accomplice managed to escape,” an official said.

Meanwhile some reports said the slain militant was identified as an Umar of Lashakar-e-Toiba, a group active in the area.

The search operations were continuing  till mid-morning.
