Meghalaya Deputy CM lays foundation stone of Rs 30.90 crore road project

Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister P Tynsong laid the foundation stone for the upgradation from single to intermediate lane including improvement of Laitkor-Pomlakrai-Laitlyngkot in the presence of Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board and MLA/MDC of Nongkrem Constituency, Lambor Malngiang and Gavin M Mylliem, Chairman, MKVIC and MLA, Sohra constituency.

Funded by the World Bank under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project, an amount of Rs 30.90 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of 15.358 km road.

Till date, the Government has sanctioned 10 schemes under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project.

P Tynsong reiterated the government’s priority in improving the road sector across the State.

Stating that the Laitkor-Pomlakrai-Laitlyngkot will go a long way in easing traffic congestion in Shillong, he also informed that work in currently underway for making a detailed project report for the Shillong Western Bypass which will connect Laitjem to Kyrdemkulai.

Tynsong also said that under the 3rd phase of PGMSY which will commence soon, the central government has sanctioned Rs 1000 crore for Meghalaya and this will go a long way in changing the landscape of rural development.

Lambor Malngiang while expressing happiness over the commencement of the project sought the cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly the people of the village for the smooth execution of the project. He expressed hope that once completed, the road will prove to be a boon and bring about employment opportunities for the people of the area.

The programme was also attended by the officers of the PWD department, the Rangbah Shnongs, members of the Dorbar Shnongs and local residents.
