Man from Mizoram with 38 wives and 89 children dies at 76

Aizawl: Ziona Chana, who is believed to be the head of the world’s largest family with 38 wives, 89 children and 33 grandchildren from Mizoram, died at a private hospital in Mizoram’s capital city Aizawl on Sunday. He was 76.

Zionghaka, who is popularly known as Ziona Chana, died at Trinity hospital in Aizawl at around 3 pm on Sunday.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga took to Twitter to confirm and condoled the demise of Ziona Chana and said Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family.

Zoramthanga tweeted: “With heavy heart, #Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world's largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children. Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family. Rest in Peace Sir!”

Born on July 21, 1945 Ziona Chana married his first wife Zathiangin who is older than him by three years, at age of 17.
