Kuladhar Saikia named as new Assam DGP

Guwahati, Apr 25 (IBNS): Kuladhar Saikia, a 1985 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Sahitya Academy awardee, has been named as the next Assam Police DGP. 

In a notification issued by the state department on Apr 25 (Wednesday) stated that, Kuladhar Saikia, Special DGP (Law & Order) is promoted and posted as new DGP, Assam.

The current DGP of Assam Mukesh Sahay will be retired on Apr 30.

Earlier, the State Security Commission had prepared a list of five senior-most police officials, including Kuladhar Saikia, for the DGP post and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has reportedly selected Saikia’s name from the list.

An alumnus of the Cotton College and Delhi University, Kuladhar Saikia had received Fullbright Fellowship in Economics in 2000.

He was awarded the prestigious Katha Award in 2000 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015 for his short stories.
