Kolkata/IBNS: A taxi driver was arrested here on Tuesday for allegedly harassing and making lewd comments at actress-parliamentarian Mimi Chakraborty while she was travelling in her car.

The incident happened at Ballygunge Phari area in south Kolkata while Chakraborty was returning from gymnasium on Monday night.

Speaking about the incident, Chakraborty said, "I was coming back from the gym (gymnasium). I was alone with my driver in my car. I suddenly saw a taxi driver making an inappropriate gesture at me.

"Initially I ignored and moved on. Then I saw the taxi driver once again overtaking my car and was making an inappropriate gesture at me for the second time."

The Bengali actress then got down from her car and caught the taxi driver who was later arrested by the Kolkata Police.

"I felt that I needed to stop this (the inappropriate behaviour of the taxi driver). If I had ignored him, maybe he would have harassed another woman in future. Moreover he is the driver of a taxi which would be boarded by women. So this was my responsibility as a citizen and that's what I did," said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal's Jadavpur.
